How to Make Money with Adsense :: What Matters
We’ve all read umpteen articles on the internet on how to make good money with adsense, and well, most of it is generic and I am sure you are as sick of it as I am.
I am going to delve a little deeper into the generic stuff and then I will talk about the stuff most articles don’t usually talk about because it just doesn’t seem important enough.
The most important thing for making money off adsense is to have good content and a good looking site. Buy a domain name, get a good template, or design a good one yourself which doesn’t hurt the eyes. Soft colours are a good choice. Then get started on the content. Use good, informative content which is easy to read and is fun. Your site should be user friendly and should be easily navigable with no broken links.
That’s the generic stuff. Now I get to what matters most in Adsense, the ads themselves.
Color of the Ads
This might seem like a really trivial detail, but I will explain why this is so important. Ever been to those sites which seem good but your surfing experience was ruined by badly placed, large and obscene advertisements that seem to have been put where they’ve been put just for the heck of it? I am sure you have, as have most people. It is a instant turn off for any surfer to have obscene ads on any page. They instantly want to go elsewhere.
Google Adsense allows you to choose from over 250 colours in its control panel and you should use it for maximum effect. Do not go for loud colours only in an effort to make your ad seen. Choose subtle colours which remain out of the way while at the same time make the surfer aware that there is an advertisment there.
Size of the Ads
The same question I asked above applies here. So does the answer. It’s an instant turn off to see huge banner ads popping up over the site you’re visiting. Not only do they use up unnecessary bandwidth, they are a waste of space and as it diverts the surfers attention away from the content. You have to take into account that most of today’s new traffic is from India and China, where millions still use dial up connections, hence they cannot view large adverts as they slow the connection.
Large ads also come into the way of your content and make your page look ill managed and badly made. Use small advertisments and boxes are preferable. Use a different font than that content font to differentiate it from the rest of the page.
Positioning of the Ads
Position of the ads is very important as well. Nobody likes to see ads butting in at the top of the page. Place ads in the middle of relevent text in light muted tones so as not to overtly divert attention. You can also make use of column and row arrangements on the side of the page or at the bottom of the page to maximise space utilisation without being obscene.
